Public Works

Barnwell County Public Works Department oversees the engineering and maintenance of the County’s roads, bridges, road drainage, and road signs.  The Public Works Department works closely with the CTC to complete road projects throughout the County.

The County Transportation Committee (CTC) is appointed by Barnwell County Council as authorized by the Barnwell County Legislative Delegation. The SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plays an active role. The CTC focuses on road improvement projects of local and regional significance, dirt road paving projects, pavement preservation, and intersection and safety improvement projects.  Projects are funded by "C" Funds which come from 3.99 cents per gallon of the state gasoline tax distributed to each of the 46 counties based on population, land area, and rural road mileage.
